How we carry out a typical tree trimming job
Peterborough Is a city full of trees. we are lucky to have them around us. The thing that gets taken for granted however, is that the surviving trees in the city are either going to be super lucky, or super unlucky that we are here. An unlucky tree is one that doesn’t receive the care and maintenance it deserves, and yes the lucky ones get the opposite attention.
In definition, tree trimming or tree pruning, involves cutting back specific branches to improve the health, structure, and appearance of a tree. Here’s a basic rundown of our process:
Planning
Before trimming, we assess the tree’s health and structure. Identify dead or diseased branches, any branches growing inward or crossing, and areas where the tree is too dense.
Cutting Technique
There are a ton of reasons you may want a tree trimmed, that also gives us an abundance of options, and practices to use. The most common reasons for having us come, are because of dead branches, or you require thinning.. a practice used to reduce the volume of excess branches on a tree to allow for more water, and sunlight into it, and shaping of trees, or sometimes hedges for aesthetic purposes.
Dead or Damaged Branches: Cut at the base or just outside the branch collar (where the branch meets the trunk) to remove dead or diseased growth.
Thinning: Remove crossing or crowded branches to allow more light and air to reach the interior of the tree.
Shaping: We trim to maintain a natural shape and remove any branches that are growing in the wrong direction.
When to Trim
It's generally best to trim trees in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. This minimizes the risk of damage and infection.
Post-Trimming
After trimming, we clean up the brush and either remove it or pile it up.. whatever you chose. On occasion we will apply a pruning sealer to help prevent the trees from decaying, but this isn’t always necessary.
